Download & Connect
You need a World of Warcraft 3.3.5a client to play on Frostforge. No other client version will connect correctly.
If you already have a clean 3.3.5a client, you can skip directly to step 2 and update your realmlist.
01 Download the Client
Frostforge does not currently host its own full client download. We recommend using a clean community-hosted World of Warcraft 3.3.5a client and then changing the realmlist to Frostforge.
The ChromieCraft download page provides a clean 3.3.5a client, torrent options, mirrors, and macOS/Linux notes. After downloading, make sure you replace the realmlist with the Frostforge one below.
Client downloads are large. Make sure you have enough disk space to download and extract the client.
02 Set the Realmlist
Open your World of Warcraft folder and find your realmlist file.
For most English clients, it is located here:
Data\enUS\realmlist.wtf
If your client uses another locale, the folder may be different:
Data\enGB\realmlist.wtf
Data\deDE\realmlist.wtf
Data\frFR\realmlist.wtf
Open realmlist.wtf in a text editor and replace the full contents with:
set realmlist frostforge.nl
Save the file before starting the game.
03 Create Your Account
Create a Frostforge account on the website. The username and password you create here are used to log in to the game.
Important: log in with your account name, not your email address.
04 Launch the Game
Start the game by running:
Wow.exe
Do not use the Blizzard Launcher. It may try to update the client to a newer version, which will prevent you from connecting to Frostforge.
Log in with your Frostforge account credentials, select the Frostforge realm, create your character, and begin the campaign.
What happens in-game?
Frostforge is a guided Warcraft lore campaign. Instead of rushing from dungeon to dungeon, you follow short lore quests that explain where you are going and why each dungeon matters.
Lore quest
→ travel or investigation
→ dungeon objective
→ turn-in
→ next chapter
Having trouble?
If you cannot connect, check the following:
- Are you using World of Warcraft 3.3.5a?
- Did you set the realmlist to frostforge.nl?
- Are you starting the game with Wow.exe?
- Are you logging in with your account name instead of your email address?
- Did you fully close the game before changing the realmlist?
If you still need help, ask in the Frostforge community or contact the server staff.
